Is your personal consumption of oil part of the problem?

The problems related to the consumption of oil are: Many countries depend on the oil, which is mainly from countires in the Middle East.

These Middle Eastern countries might use this advantage, and have the countries which need the oil in their hands. Another problem with oil is the huge consumption, and the constantly raising prices, because of the great demand. But in our oppinion, the pollution is the biggest problem.

Of course our personal consumption is part of the problem, because we use product based on oil in our every day lives. For our private use, oil is most important for the gasoline in cars. We really depend on it, because we have to drive long distances, and often, there are no alternative travelling possiblities. If we don’t have oil (gasoline) available we would almost feel like that we live in the stoneage. No energy, no transportation, no heating (except chimney fired by wood).

What impact does oil have on our environment?

Oil has a huge impact on our environment. Most of the oil is burnt, which results in carbon dioxide in the athmosphere, and will eventually harm the athmosphere. Many scientists say, that this process is most likely the most important cause for global warming. Many plastic product are made out of oil. other products,  that are also created, are gases, that polute the environment. An example for burning oil, were the wells in Kuwait. Afer the defeat, of the Iraq army, they burnt over 700 wells, and did not only ration the oil supply, but also polluted the air. The burning oil, created huge black cloudes, which also contributed to global warming.

PT.3

Are there any viable energy alternatives?

In the present and in the near future, alternative oil sources, especially for cars are availabe. Viable energy alternatives for oil, such as Ethanol, and hybrids are already in use. Hybrids do not completely run on electricity, and their fuel economy is much more efficient than normal cars consuming gasoline and diesel. Ethanol is a completely new way of redifineing gasoline. About 85% of the Ethanol in thne United States comes from corn. In the future,  cars will not depend on gasoline at all. Electric cars will use batteries and just have to be recharged on a regular basis. While the Fuel Cell uses hydrogen as an energy source without releasing any emissions other than water.

 Ethanol                        Hybrid                      Electricity                Fuel Cell

Some of these alternative fuel cars

 have even better performance

than some high fuel burning sports cars; like a Ferrari:

Or the new Tesla Roadstar which is already available now:

PT. 4

Is there a connection between oil and violence in the Middle East?

Certainly there is a connection between oil and the violence in the Middle East. Many countries depend on oil, which is mostly available in the Middle East. Where there is oil, there is great wealth. Many other Middle Eastern countries want to control the available oil sources and wealth. So there have been many fights over oil in the last decades. The countries that are most involved in those fights over oil where Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. Other countries which are also interested in the oil, such as the United States, build connections with those countries, to receive better access and special prices.

Reem k. and Quinn K.:Your blog was great,I loved the pictures, it made it much more colorful!Except a couple of things really caught my eye First of all there are more energy alternatives than just ethanol. Second, Oil also effects animals if there are oil spills, not just global warming. There are also a couple of other minor things that don't really matter. I really like the chart you put in, and the videos were kind of cool. Overall, your blog was fine.
Florian B.:Sam, the car drives up to 112 mph which is not as much as a Ferrari or a Porsche. But, don't you agree with me that 80mph are enough for a car driving on official streets. And for races, a car like this is not built, because there oppnents would try to beat the car by burning even more and more oil. Thecar is built to prevend this not to support it!
Sam D:I really liked your video of that car that went faster than the Porsche. I just have one question. Is that car actually faster than the Porsche or does it just have a faster acceleration.
