Is Oil Evil?

1. Is your personal consumption of oil part of the problem?

Though not in large amounts, our own gas usage is a problem to the environment.  Even if using a car with a high miles-per-gallon rate, your car sends out smoke into the atmosphere.  Though it may not seem like a significant amount, every square inch of it will soon add up to a great problem.  For example, going to your little brother's hockey game might not seem like wasting a lot of gas, but when you pull into that parking spot, you see dozens of cars.  Here is a site that shows some of the dangers of car emissions.  Imagine that each of them had to drive fifteen minutes just to get there.  That is a lot of smoke.  Bellow is a picture of all the smog caused by cars driving around the city of Bangkok.

2.  What impact does oil have on our environment?

Because oil is not properly disposed of, oil has a negative on our environment.

Although oil can be removed or used without hurting the environment, oil is

not removed the correct way and because of this, many of our lakes, rivers,

and sections of soil are polluted. Pollution is occuring is because

people with less money can save money by dumping thier oil into a nearby lake

and oil contains an arsenic that pollutes soil and water. Many accidental and

non-accidental events can cause oil waste and pollution,Such as an oil spill

while changing your car, to illegaly dumping oil in landfills. The vidio posted

talkes about a major oil leak and how it's affecting the lake.

Are the any viable energy alternatives?

Hydrogen fuel cells are the best choice for an alternative energy source.

It only produces water as a waste and uses hydrogen and oxygen to create

energy.  Though it is not widely used today, it is proven that it actually

works.  Though it is still being worked on for improvements, hydrogen

fuel cells will change the whole world.  See video on the bottom for more detail.

Another good choice is the exact inverse of the hydrogen fuel cell.  This

invention uses water to power a car.  Watch the video on the top to see more detail.

4. Is there a connection betwen oil and violence in the Middle East?

Because of the great wealth oil can give to someone, I do believe that

there is a connection.  According to the sources I used for this report, bieng

able to steal oil from other countries has become a buisness in itself.  Also

in some countries, the government can take about a quarter of a smugglers

profits.  With these two pieces of information, the laws against smuggling oil

will become more lieniant.  Many judges studying the smuggling laws were

killed in Iraq.  The video attaches displayes how badly many countries need oil.

Cristina:Hey Guys! Your blog was very interesting. The videos were very good and they helped me understand your opinions better. However in your first question I think that it is important to note that oil does not only fuel cars. There are many other uses for oil such as plastic. There are many people in the world who do not have cars, but they still contribute to the problem. For your second question I thought it was interesting how you didn't mention global warming or any other environmental problems that oil causes. However I think it was good that you had so much detail on the oil spills because a lot of people tend to forget that. The other questions were also well written but I just have one question about the last video you have on your blog; what exactly is this new law they are talking about? All in all I think you guys did a great job but your blog could have used another read through because I found a few spelling mistakes. Great Job Guys!! It was very intriguing!
Brandy:You did a nice job with including videos and pictures because they were not only interesting, but relevant and helpful. I think that you lacked some detailed information on specifications about future plans for oil in respect to alternative sources for energy. All in all, I think you did a pretty decent job on your blog and next time, you should simply look into additional information. :)
carolyn darr:I liked that your blog had many videos that the reader could refer to because that really helps people who are more visual. I do believe that you could have included more information in your responses however, such as exactly who oil spill affect. Also, it would have been nice if you had gone into more detail about your alternate energy sources or even mentioned others that are available. Great job guys, I enjoyed reading your blog!
