Is Oil Evil?

Question 1: Is your personal consumption of oil part of the problem?

Of course the oil that we consume is a part of the calamity. For example all the times when we use the car to drive to the supermarket, school or any other place whithin range we could instead ride a bike or walk, however driving a car is easier and more comfortable. yet it consumes a lot of fuel especialy if you concider the curent trend in america towards owning big cars whith a extremely heavy gassoline consumtion rate, now the alternative which is riding a bike or simply walking consumes absolutely no gassoline. Also how many times do you leave the light running or the airconditioning on when you leave the house? For which of course you would use the car for again. But now you are probably thinking these things use litle to no electicity. well that is true but that litle electicity they do use ads up over time. And of course the electricity that you need for most of the apliances, is produced by burning different kinds of fossil fuels like oil, coal, and natural gas.  These fossil fuels are going to run out sonner or later, because it takes a long time for these gases to be created. And once this does hapen we are going to have massive problems. Our infrastructure, our transportational system yes even simple sanitary sistems like heating and water surply will fail to work because they all depend on oil or natural gas in some way. And when this hapenes our whole modern way of living will colapse.

Question 2: What impact does oil have on our environment?

The impacts on the enviorment because of the usage of oil are for example, the cause of global warming, heinous air polution that poison the air for living things. But the biggest impact on the humans is that they want to make everything as simple as possible for them for a gourmet life and to do that they even kill without knowing it. Oil makes people addicted, America is the single largest consumer of oil in the world. And the biggest Question right now is, why are there still American soldiers in the middleeast? I think that they are still there because of the oil. Bush said that he sent those men to search for nuclear weapons of mass destruction, but they never found any, so they should go back. They kill all these animals that live in the regions where oil comes out of the earth, and lets not forget what hapenes when a lage oil trasport ship has some sort of major acident leading to a oil spill. when such large amounts of oil are released into the ocean it wreaks havoc on entire ecosystemes. It kills the underwater plant and fish life in the area that the sill ocured in, and if the oilcarpets wash ashore they kill all living things that inhabit those srtips of land.

Ouestion 3: Are there any viable energy alternatives?

There are many other energy alternatives than oil. It just happens to be that oil is the most important one, because it is easy to use and understand how it works. But since it is relatively simple to use there has not ben a lot of research into any cheap, easy to produce and equal in power to oil. The lack of research into these fields can be explained through one simple fact: there is no motivation to facilitate further research into these areas. But this has al changed in recent years. because of the two wars in iraq the prices of oil have gone through the roof so alternatives are looking more and more lukerative. Also throu recent advances in science we where able to figure out al of the negative side efects that the burning of these natural resources have on our enviromet. And most people agree that the drawbacks outweight the advantages by far.So in recent years there has been an exponential rise in intrest for the development of alternative power souces. One of the technologies is the conversion of sunlight into electricity. This electricity could also be used for the power in the car instead of the oil. One of the cars, which you can observe on this website,( New solar Technology ), works with solar energy. You would save the money for your car that you would normally buy for oil, help nature with no air pollution and you would not use any more oil to get from one place to another. There even more ways to create energy like windturbines that do not make any polution. In Germany there are many many wind turbines, because it is a great idea that turns mechanical energy from the wind to electrical energy. Also concernig the burning of gassoline in engines they have made great advancements. There are cars that run on fuel that is distiled from plats. This fuel has far less co2 emisions than normal fuel and there is an unlimited surply as long as we keep growing the plants necicesary for this proces. Another recent technology is the usage of fuel cells. Fuel cells use hydrogen instead of gasoline to power their engines. Both of these new envioremently friendly engines can be seen in a recent lineup of general motors cars (see here)

Question 4: Is there a connection between oil and violence in the Middle East?

There is a connection between oil and the violence, but it is not all because of the oil. In the past there were many more reasons to start violence, but it was kept under the limit. Now when oil also became a problem, the glass was too full and started to run over. Too many things happened that made the violence how it is now. There are many countries that are addicted to oil, like the US. In other countries like Germany you use a bike or if it is necessery a bus where many people can fit in. But in the US, for example school, the parents or the students drive each to the schools and back home. But there could be much more buses driving the students to school or they could even drive with a bike. When the oil decreases, which it does right now by a lot, the more violence there will be, because the countries in the Middle East do not want to give up all the oil, they want to keep some for themselves. And when the other countries come to them and ask if they could have some oil and the owner says no. There will be another arguement that could grow and grow to a big war. Oil will make people to richer people that want to rule the world.

Kelsey Russell:i have to add something to my comment. one thing that i am not too much of a fan of was that you guys were kind of anti-america. Yes, americans use a signifigantly large amount more oil than a lot of other countries, however, you guys did not mention other countries in some of you paragraphs. So it was kind of focused on how AMERICA is using all of the oil and it is all AMERICA's fault...which some of it is, dont get me wrong, but not all of it is. I dont mean to be negative, but i just wanted to make a point. You guys did say a lot and were by far, not afraid to say the truth, which is nice. great job.
Kelsey Russell:That was a very thorough and convered everything from top to bottom in my perspective. The response to the alternative energy source paragraph was very long, and seemed to go on, but it contained so much information, I was impressed. the only thing that I found that was a disadvantage to your blog, was a couple grammatical errors, however, they really had no overall effect at all. On a more postitive note, I liked how you guys colored the font and background, it had a nice clean look to it. This blog was very well written and very thought out, I like it.
    E. Davies:This blog is well-written, interesting, and thought-provoking. All of the questions were answered really in-depth and provided alot for the readers to think about. I liked how you incorporated links because it shows you really connected your opinions to the real world. Also the links helped to support your opinions and answers. The only thing missing from this blog is graphics in the form of eye-catching charts, pictures, or videos. Overall, I think you really did a good job of conveying your ideas.
