Is Oil Evil?

Question #1: Is your personal consumption of oil part of the problem?

Our personal consumption of oil is contributing to the problem.  This is because we use cars every single day and these cars demand oil to run.  By demanding more and more gas to drive, the amount of oil needed is becoming much greater.  Even though, we alone do not cause global warming and harm to our enviroment we are contributing to the problem.  We are just adding to the amount of oil that is being used each day and polluting our enviroment each day.  We contribute to this problem by using cars that consume oil.  Oil is not a resource that will stay around for a long time, it will soon run out if we continue our use cars with the consumption of gas.

Question #2: What impact does oil have on our environment?

Even though there are many positive effects of using oil like powering the many products we use each day, oil also has many problems that come with it.  These problems are the ones that effect our enviroment in many ways.  Oil has a very large impact on our enviroment.  By using oil for gas, we are hurting out atmosphere. The burning of gas is causing global warming which is helping in the melting of our polar ice caps and increasing the temperature of the air and oceans. If global warming continues from the burning oil than the temperature of the earth will only continue to rise causing sea levels to rise and weather conditions to become extreme.  Another way oil can potentially hurt our enviroment is from the many oil spills that take place.  With these many oil spills on land and water, animals homes are being destroyed.  But, it also hurts the animals themselves and can potentially poison them.  Oil can be useful for machines in our daily lives but for the enviroment, it is extremely harmful and there are many potential problems that oil can cause.

Question #3: Are there any viable energy alternatives?

 Mastercard Parody: Energy Alternatives

There are viable energy alternatives in the world. Some of which include solar energy, hydroelectric energy, and wind energy. By using solar panels, energy from sunlight is converted into electricity or heat which allows us to power electronics. The movement of water creates energy which we can use as electricity. This is called hydroelectric energy. Wind energy is made by the use of turbines. The blades of the turbine turn when the wind spins it causing a transmission inside of it to turn a generator which makes the electricity. All of these energy alternatives are renewable resources which do not add to the pollution on the planet.

Kirkuk's Oil Crisis - Iraq

This link to Kirkuk's Oil Crisis represents how oil has become a major problem to Iraq.  This is because not only is it extremely expensive but Iraq is not recieving enough oil to support their economy.

Question #4: Is there a connection between oil and violence in the Middle East?

Oil does have a connection to violence in the Middle East.  This is because George W. Bush has made the United States support many different contries just because of their oil supply.  We have continued to move to different contries so we can benefit from them.  Our current location he has put us in is Iraq.  And for no other logical reason than the supply of oil.  With us being in these other countries, conflict has started.  Right now, the conflict that is taking place is between us and Iraq and with this has come violence.

alex:i agree whith your opinion that oil does have its advantages. but i also agree that there are just as many disadvantages to using oil for every single aspect of our life. also you did a nice job on covering all the diferent alternatives that are curently available. from solar energy to wind powered turbines. so congrats on a great job!
Ben:First of all, before I say anything, I want to say that I admire that you did this whole blog by yourself, and it must've been tough without a partner. Now, for question 1, you had great ideas about how we are contributing to the problem, and how it's only going to get worse. I agree that humans alone are not causing global warming, but I disagree that that are other factors harming our environment. Humans alone must be harming the environment, because the way I see it, anything that's not human is part of the environment, and if the environment harmed itself, we wouldn't be alive today. For question 2, I agree that there are many ways oil is hurting our environment, such as the pollution of our air and oceans. I don't think that oil is going to kill us all by making hurricanes, but that's my personal opinion and doesn't change the fact that this blog is very insightful and well done. Again, for question 3, I think that those alternate energy sources would be excellent substitutes for oil, although solar power is not very efficient and not very cheap. Question 4 is a bit short, and could have used some more detail, but a good blog overall.
A wagner:Over all I agree with a majority of the statments you made through out your paper. However in a few of the questions you began to stray from the topic and left the reader confused. For the rest of your answers I felt I could really agreed with you and the points you made. Also there was a very good use of pictures and both the videos were well chosen and helped add to your cause.
