Is Oil Evil?

Yes, my personal comsumption of oil is a problem. However, not one person alone is to be blamed. Everyone is to be blamed when it comes down to the final factor--oil is harming the world. Not neccessarily oil, however but the way people react to it. It did not have to be oil however. If cars and many other material goods taken for granted ran on diamonds, there would be a mad rush for diamonds. Oil is not evil, it is simply the reactions of oil that are harmful to humanity. For instance, in Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth he shows how people are aware of the truth just too lazy to take action against it and turn the truth around.

The effects that oil consumption has on our environment are devastating. The way that it is being guzzled by card only to be spat back out into the atmosphere is life threatening. The people that use the most oil are everday people that follows a routinely schedule: Go to work, lunch, work, coffee, home. These travels are commonly made by SUVs while hybrids potentially can save the world from an early fall. Big Oil Evil Conservative Jr. Ringer T-Shirt Awareness is present, but life changing affects are not.

Are there any viable energy alternatives?

The world is changing and that is a fact, but what are the people of the world going to do about it? The answer is using alternative energy resources that both save money and are renewable, reducing the amount of pollution the citizens of the world have caused. Types of alternative energy resources are solar power, wind power, geothermal energy, hydroelectric energy and much more. One of the largest alternative energy producers in Europe is Germany. In Germany there are many places that support this new change for a better source of energy. Some examples of what is used in Germany as different energy resources are solar energy, and wind energy. Solar energy is when energy from the sun is used to provide power to many of the daily appliances more modernized people tend to use. Wind energy is used as another power source and also providing electricity. With both of these [solar and wind energy] the result is cleaner and more breathable air. Germany is home to around over sixteen thousand windmills that provide the wind energy, and also have many solar energy producing power plants. Another upside to having alternative energy resources is that as technology improves the less and less this new energy will cost. Germany is a wonderful example of a country taking the first steps in improving the world making less pollution. Other countries have also made this change into trying to use different types of energy that is not so harmful to the Earth itself. Change can be either good or bad depending on the view of a person, but this change in using alternative energy sources is a change for the better not worse.

Is there a connection between oil and violence in the Middle East?

Violence can be caused by many things and can have a number of different outcomes. The Middle East is a good example of a place where violence can be occuring at any time over the smallest object, one of the bigger things is oil.  I do think that oil and violence has a connection in the Middle East. I think that because the region there is full of this demanded resource that it is causing this the Middle East, but I do not think that it is the cause of all of the conflicts over there. The reason that these are connected because since oil is such a popular and needed resource the fighting there is about what or who will own all of this oil and who takes care of say passing it out and giving an amount to some country. Also since oil is wanted in many countries who basically live their everyday lives with this resource the money that the oil makes is quite plentiful so the money earned from the country buying the oil is one of the reasons for starting things because the countries there are in such bad shape from the war going on the money can really help the person and if this person or people are some “bad guys” they would probably invest in powerful weaponry that threaten other nations and will leave them eventually if not stopped with more power. The only way others think they can stop this is by resorting  to violence and then the combat is continued spreading all around. This is how oil and violence are connected, and these connections could branch out into other forms of violent behavior and crimes happening in the Middle East

BS:Well, although your argument about "people are aware of the truth just too lazy to take action against it and turn the truth around" does have credibility, what exactly can be done about that laziness? Also, when you say that people's reactions to oil are what is the actual problem, is it really possible to change a person's reaction? People are entrenched in their want of comfort, and oil is a sort of "comfort object"- they know it is there in the moment, and so don't worry about it. Changing a perception like that is really difficult- although I agree with your connections, what do you, overall, propose to DO about it?
