Question #1
Is your personal consumption of oil part of the problem?
Lauren: I don't think that individual people consuming oil is the problem. The problem is that we are way too dependant on other countries, such as the middle east, for oil. We cant drill for oil in alaska for oil, because apparently it is "bad for the environment".., but its not really as bad as trying to get it from other countries.
Liz: It could be both ways.
yes because most people tend to try and stock up on oil for gasoline for their cars, or else they just buy pretty much every week. This helps waste their money and oil because since its such a repetitive act it adds up and then more needs to be bought which means less becomes available. Then there is also those people [mostly teenagers and college freaks] who do really cool-looking but stupid things like blow up stuff and make flamethrowers; its really awesome but wastes oil.
no because it really doesnt matter. personal oil consumption doesnt really have an effect; really since the US is the biggest consumer of oil its their fault. if they had just screwed environmentalists and just drilled in Alaska, they wouldent have this problem. there is also the global warming 'effects'. because the world is melting down it contributes to less resources, of which one is clearly oil. plus, other countries are just stealing oil anyways.
Question #2
What impact does oil have on our environment?
Lauren: Everyone now thinks that we are responsible for global warming and too much CO2 in the air because of our oil consumption. But the truth is that global warming is definatly not a crisis, or even necessarily caused by us. Look a this graph of the climate change over the past couple thousnd years:
obviously, the climate is at a warmer state right now, but it seems to be going normally with the pattern. Also, think about it. How great were the tools used to detect the temperature 2000 years ago?? Not that great......I dont think that we can say anything right now about global warming.
also, al gore thought he invented the internet and he thinks that zebras have spots so i dont think that we should just believe everything he says without even considering that he might have made it up.
Liz: Oil has loads of impacts on our environment. For one, it really has nothing to do with global warming no matter what people think, because really a lot of that is from termite flatulence [no joke]. So its not actually attributing to that part of the environments deterioration. One impact that it does have on the environment is that it causes people to waste money doin things like being pyros and driving places like their mailboxes which is pretty stupid since that’s what legs are for. Another thing is its one of the reasons for the Iraqi-US war because if the US hadn’t have been so stupid and just drilled in their own country or at least signed a treaty or something they wouldn’t have invaded and shot people up just for some black stuff that makes their grills work. in addition to this, most people are just stupid because they leave their cars running when they do things they think wont take very long but then they do so it wastes a lot of money on oil.
Are their any viable energy alternatives?
Lauren: Since we are currently having problems w/ using oil, scientists are currently coming up with alternative energy sources that would cut back/ eliminate oil. The main one is solar energy. The advantages of this would be that we could just use energy from the sun, which we wouldn't have to take from other countries.

Liz: no because there really is only vegetable oil which doesnt work for long distances at all or even short distances.also, teh oil has to be cooked which isnt very efficient cause then people would be cooking oil all day long; an assembly line of people frying vegetable oil would just be plain wierd and scary and it wouldent work very well.
Is there a connection between oil and violence in the middle east?
Lauren: I think that the reason we are at war with the middle east is not very clear to most people. However, the war definatly has something with oil. Iraq at the time was trying to take over a little nearby country, and we were worried that if iraq did this they would try to get into saudi arabia and raise the price of oil so that the U.S would go into an economic depression, which might make us more
vulnerable to other attacks just like 9/11. Another reason that there is a war is going on in the middle east is because the leaders there were treating some of the people there badly. But by going into Iraq, we made them have a democracy so that is good for us and them.
Liz: yes. if the US had decided to get oil from their own territory they wouldent have invaded and shot people up and start this whole war between Iraqis and Americans. although one could argue that there is also 9.11, the whole Holy Land issue of Jerusalem, and just plain prejudices between Americans and Iraqis and Iraqis and Iraqis, i most definitly think that is one contributor to the war at least because it doesnt matter the US shouldent have jumped in because it wasnt their problem and they just worsened it.
